Jet-lagged kids

I've not been very consistent with this blogging thing so far, so one of my resolutions for 2013 is to regularly post. Let's see how I go!

Anyway—jet-lagged kids. All my family are in England ... a long, long way from the the Central Coast in Australia. This past Christmas we made the ridiculously loooooong trip back. I will post more about the time spent there later in the week. But right now it is 3am and I should be asleep, and if it wasn't for those pesky little rascals I call my children, I would be in the land of nod.

We flew back into Sydney at 7 am on Sunday. Keen to get back into our routine, the girls had a nap after lunch. I woke them up after 2 hours, thinking that should get them through the afternoon ready for an early bedtime. By 6.30pm they were all tucked up in bed.

I was vaguely aware of hubbie rousing around 1 am, which is when it all started. Between us, we were up and down the stairs for 3 hours, every 10 – 20 minutes. Next thing I know, hubbie is waking me up and it's 1 pm!!! And Leila is still asleep!! Apparently Mahlia got up around 8.30 am but took herself back to bed at 10 am, and she was also still asleep. So much for getting into the new routine!! However, wonderful hubbie went and did a fruit and veg shop and did some gardening in this time.

Tonight has followed a similar course, but we let the girls stay up late thinking they would sleep better. And we took them for a late afternoon bush walk, encouraging them to run rather than walk. But alas, this was to no avail. I have lost count of the times I've been into their rooms, but they are sticking to the 10 minute call-out. Mahlia is making her way through every body part, insisting it is sore. Leila just wants a drink or Winkle, Winkle Ille Sar (also known as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star).

So I have given up traipsing up and down the stairs every 10 minutes, and thought I would fulfil one of my resolutions!

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with jet-lagged children?! Please help!!!

PS. In the time it has taken to write this, I have not heard a single peep out of them ... do I dare go back to bed?! Spoke to soon, Mahlia's eye is still sore when she's asleep.
